Colca is one of the biggest tourist destinations in Peru; located at the northeast corner of Arequipa in the Province of Caylloma. Colca comes from the words Collaguas and Cabanas, two ethnic groups that lived along the Colca River. Also by the way this is the second deepest canyon in the world with 4150 meters, after Cotahuasi canyon.
The province of Caylloma, designated generically as “Colca” is part of the department of Arequipa in Peru and is located in the northeast corner of this region. The province’s main stage and the Colca Canyon is in your environment that have settled populations that identify it.

Itinerary

Day 01 – 08.00 Pick up at hostel and departure from Arequipa (2325 masl). We head for the asphalt road Yura, crossing Pampa and Pampa Arrieros Cañahuas, watching the vicuna, llamas, alpacas, and migratory birds, and then go towards Viscachani where we can enjoy a mate de coca tea, to acclimatize the body from the altitude we are at. Continuing the tour appreciating the fields, small lakes and and wet lands while observing some migratory birds like flamingos. Arriving at the highest point of the journey Patapampa (4830 m.), also known as the viewpoint of the Volcanoes, and from here you can see the volcanic chain in particular the Hualcahualca, Sabancalla and Ampato, then descending to the town of Chivay (3600 m.a.s.l) where we will have lunch and obtain our accommodation in the Hostel.

Optional afternoon visit to the hot springs of La Calera, where we will stay for a period of two hours approx. These baths are medicinal thermal water, good for physical illness.
At night, enjoy dinner accompanied by Folklore, (a type of music from Peru).

Day 02 –  Cruz del Cóndor * In the morning (5:30am) breakfast at the hostel. And then depart for theCruz del Condor, where we will remain for a period of 2 hours, approx. Place where you can see the great dimensions and depth of this canyon, and see the flight of the Condor.
* On returning observe archaeological sites, pre-Inca agricultural terraces and other panoramic views of the Colca Canyon. Visit the villages of Pinchollo, Maca, Achoma, and Yanque where we can see their local churches, craft centers, and the typical dress, etc. Arrival to Chicay and have lunch.

Departure to  Arequipa
5:00pm Arrival at Arequipa.
