Iquitos and Rio Amazonas are an ideal place for ecotourism lovers, and for those who want to feel an intimate contact with the unspoiled nature of the Amazon rainforest. From the city you will be able to go to lodgings in the jungle, and for the more adventurous and fearless you can reach the natural protected areas, full and plethoric of exuberant flora and fauna, with many places to discover, and many living species unknown by science.

Itinerary

DAY 1: IQUITOS / CEIBA TOPS

Am transfer from hotel to airport in Lima.
Transfer from airport to destination in Iquitos.
Reception at the airport, brief city orientation on the way to the pier. 40km boat ride down the Amazon River to Ceiba Tops, where we will have rooms with air conditioning and private bathrooms with hot water that will provide the comforts of home in the rainforest. Afternoon hike around a beautiful primary rainforest formed by large trees, like the giant tree Ceiba. After dinner you can listen to local music with guitar and flute at the El Toucan Bar, or the guides are always ready to relate some of the many legends of the Amazon. Lunch, dinner.

DAY 2: CEIBA TOPS / EXPLORAMA LODGE / CEIBA TOPS

Hiking early in the morning for bird watching. After breakfast we will take boats to travel down the Amazon River to the rustic Explorama Lodge to hike the “Bushmaster Trail” where scientists from the Missouri Botanical Gardens have found the highest biodiversity per square hectare. Then continue with a visit to a community of Yagua Indians where your guide will explain their culture and how it has been affected by the passage of time. There will be an opportunity to trade or buy some local crafts and for a demonstration of the use of the blowgun which some of the old Yaguas still use in hunting today. After lunch, hike a local trail parallel to the Amazon River to visit a house of “coastal” and a rustic mill, still for the manufacture of liquor. Return to Ceiba Tops by boat.

DAY 3: CEIBA TOPS

Hiking early in the morning for bird watching. Morning boat excursion to “Monkey Island”, a private reserve where more than five species of tropical primates including, the woolly monkey, the pichico, black titi and are being protected.
During the afternoon there will be a boat excursion in search of sloth found in the treetops of the Ceticos trees on the riverbank, and the two species of freshwater dolphins, pink and gray, found in the Amazon River.
If time permits enjoy a sunset on the Amazon River.

DAY 4: CEIBA TOPS / CANOPY WALKAWAY / CEIBA TOPS

Starting very early in the morning in Ceiba Tops, boat up the narrow path between the Napo and the Amazon River, which runs in motorboat and then continue the trip on another boat to ExplorNapo Lodge for breakfast. Walk the spectacular suspension bridge spanning more than 500 meters (one-third mile). These bridges are connected by tree platforms and reaching a height of over 35 meters (115 feet) but are accessible without any skill or equipment. After lunch, visit the Garden Etnicobotánico ReNuPeRu where over 240 medicinal plants are cultivated by a local shaman who will explain the nature of Amazonian natural healing and the use of some of these plants. Return to Ceiba Tops in time to enjoy the pool or hammocks before dinner.

Day 5: CEIBA TOPS / IQUITOS

Walking or boating excursion to further enjoy the Amazon rainforest or free time to enjoy the facilities in the middle of the jungle. Return to Iquitos for your flight to Lima.
Pm flight Iquitos / Lima.
Pm arrival in Lima and transfer to hotel.

  • Wear lightweight but long-sleeved clothing and long pants.
  • Carry a camera with a well-charged battery.
  • Have a good book, magazines (to read while relaxing in the boat).
  • Use extra strong repellent (Relec), especially for people with clear skin. NOTICE: Mosquitoes leave between 18h-20h
  • Take vitamins before the trip, to avoid the bite of mosquitoes. But calm that taking the previous precautions the mosquitoes will hardly bother your unforgettable trip.
  • It is recommended to bring sweets or some detail to exchange with the tribes: Boras, Yaguas and Jíbaros.
