“Salkantay” is the snow Apu guardianship of Cusco with 6271 mts. altitude. Salkantay circuit is one of the great attractions of Cusco. The Cordillera de Vilcabamba, where the massif of Salkantay is, is a beautiful and secluded area. Dominated by the same Apu Salkantay it has many high snowy peaks such as Tucarhuay (5,910 meters), the Veronica (5,682 meters) and the Huacayhuilca (5,361 m), among others. They are visible from the area Phuyupatamarca during Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. The geography is difficult and capricious all around this attractive mountain resort. The Salkantay is surrounded by deep valleys and gorges, making his interesting journey but also exhausting.

Itinerary

FIRST DAY : CUSCO/MOLLEPATA/SORAYPAMPA

Very early we leave out of Cusco, passing through towns and Limatambo Izcuchaca and after 3 hours of travel from Cusco we come to Mollepata (2800 m.). After a light breakfast we began our long but slow walk up to the place called Silca sector where lunch awaits us. We Continue the journey through valleys, and our first look at Humantay snow caped mountain (5217 m. ) and Salkantay (6264 m.) We continue between green and beautiful landscapes to Tucarhuay known as Soraypampa (3700m) where we spend the first night after a pleasant dinner.

SECOND DAY : SORAYPAMPA/CHALLWAY

After breakfast we began walking for the day, this will be a day full of adventures for which it will be the day that we will cross the so called Pampa del Salkantay, reaching the highest point of Salkantay (4600 m.) from here we will be able to see the beautiful mountain range and the snow caped Humantay.
After lunch we continue the journey to Huayrac where we will see unspeakable landscapes, and then to proceed to the second camp in Andenes or also known as Challway where we will have dinner and stay the night.

THIRD DAY : CHALLWAY / WINAYPOCO / LA PLAYA

Begin with breakfast. This day will be unforgettable to see how we will go from snow caped mountains to a variety of nature full of plants and animal life of this area, close to the Andean Community Arranyanniyoc where we begin to descend into the jungle, going through cloud forests and see small formations of hot springs that follow the course of the River Santa Teresa. It is so hot and humid in this area that it has formed a micro climate and the Orchids in the area have taken full advantage of this to the point where the color and variety have been classified by experts as the finest in the world. Arriving to camp in the area called La Playa where we will have dinner and stay overnight.

FORTH DAY : LA PLAYA / AGUAS CALIENTES

 After breakfast began walking through the jungle, wet and semi-tropical climate with a variety of coffee, coca and fruit trees we see this scenario almost all along the way until we reach Sahuayaco, we take our lunch and then continue observing in the far distance Wayna Picchu and Machu Picchu and descend to the former Hydro Electric Central from where we take the train into the town of Aguas Calientes or warm waters, where we have dinner and stay Overnight.

FIFTH DAY : AGUAS CALIENTES/MACHUPICCHU/CUSCO

 Early, after breakfast at the lodge,take the bus to go to Machu Picchu. Visit the impressivecitadel of Machu Picchu where we will walk around the city and agricultural area and turrets, ceremonial places, sacred spring, the Intihuatana or sundial and terraces where you can look at the domains of the Inca. We take the bus down to pick up the luggage at the hostel and then go to the train station to return to Cusco

gando hasta Hidroeléctrica, en este lugar tomamos el tren hacia el pueblo de Aguas Calientes, aquí tendremos la posibilidad de disfrutar de las aguas termales de Aguas Calientes. Pasamos la noche en el Hostal Machupicchu, continental o Plaza.
