Colca is one of the largest tourist destinations in Peru; located at the northeast end of Arequipa in the Province of Caylloma. Colca comes from the words Collaguas and Cabanas, two ethnic groups that lived along the Colca River. Also by the way is the second deepest canyon in the world with 4,150 meters, after the Cotahuasi canyon.
The province of Caylloma, designated generically as “Colca”, is part of the department of Arequipa in Peru and is located in the northeast corner of this region. The province has as its main scenario the Colca Canyon and it is in its surroundings that the populations that identify it have settled.
FIRST DAY
08.00 pick up at the hotel and departure from Arequipa (2325 a.m.). We drive along the paved road towards Yura, crossing Pampa de Arrieros and Pampa Cañahuas, observing the incomparable vicuñas, llamas, alpacas and migratory birds, and then reaching Viscachani where we enjoy a Coca mate, to acclimate the body, the height. Continuing with the tour appreciating the tocjras, lagunillas and bofe dales and at the same time observe some migratory birds such as the Flamingos, ibis. Arriving then to the highest point of Patapampa (4830 masl), also called the viewpoint of the Volcanoes, since from there you can see the Volcanic chain in particular: the Hualcahualca, Sabancalla and Ampato, and then descend to the town of Chivay. (3600 m.a.l) Lunch. And Accommodation in the Hotel. In the afternoon Optional visit to the Thermal Baths of La Calera, where we will stay for a period of approximately two hours. These Baths are of thermo medicinal waters, which exceed 40 degrees; good for bodily diseases.
In the evening, we will enjoy a dinner accompanied by a Folkloric rock.
SECOND DAY: CRUZ DEL CÓNDOR
In the morning (05.30) breakfast at the hotel. To then leave for the Cruz del Cóndor where we will stay for a lapse of 2 hours approx. Place where you can appreciate the depth of the Colca Canyon and also the flight of the Condor at a short distance.
In return we will observe archaeological remains, pre Inca agricultural terraces and other panoramic views of the Colca Canyon. We will visit the villages of Pinchollo, Maca, Achoma, Yanque, where we can see their typical churches, craft centers, typical clothing, among others.
Arrival to Chivay and Lunch.
Departure to Arequipa 17:00 Arrival Arequipa.
How to go dressed
For the night you should wear a jacket or warm jacket because the Colca is cold and light clothes for the day. The rainy season is between the months of December to March, so we recommend waterproof and thermal clothing.
What to do with my luggage
If after visiting the Colca Canyon you return to the city of Arequipa, you must leave your luggage in the lobby of the hotel, who will save it at no cost.
Otherwise, that is, if you do not return to the city of Arequipa, you must take all your luggage to continue your trip.
