River Basin Yanayacu-Pucate (Internal Zone of the National Reserve of Pacaya Samiria)
Unforgettable experience in one of the richest areas in biodiversity that still exists on the planet. Not only will you have the opportunity to get closer to the most select species of the Amazon but penetrate into its domains. Also known as the riparian population that inhabits the perimeter of the reserve, they carry out programs for the conservation and sustainable development to keep unchanged the one last great tropical flooded forests.

Itinerary

Day 1: (AC) Lima / Iquitos / Nauta / Pacaya-Samiria

(am) transfer to the airport of Lima.
(am) Flight Lima / Iquitos.
In the morning, arrive at Iquitos airport reception and transfer to our operations office in  Iquitos. Brief guidance on the main tourist attractions of the city.  Transfer to the pier of the city of Nauta (about 100 km. / 2 hours from Iquitos). Navigating upstream on the River Maranon to the National Reserve Pacaya-Samiria (80Km. from Nauta / 2 hours approximately). Observing on the trip a great variety of birds, including egrets, hawks, horned screamers, jacanas, parrots and parakeets. It is also possible to observe dolphins in the river. “
Lunch Box Lunch on board.
Record of visitors at the guard post of the reservation.  Check the community of Arequipa where we will install the first camp. Short walk to the nearby village.  Dinner and overnight.

Day 2: (DAC) Pacaya-Samiria

Observation of the birds leaving their nests in search of food in the river, including cotingas, macaws, parrots, vultures and probably the harpy eagle (Harpy harpyja).
Breakfast at the camp. Excursion to lake Shansho Cocha (1 hour an a half) following the course of Yanayacu-Pucate river. En route you will see giant trees as the Lupuna (Ceiba pentandra), the Capirona, the Capinurí (Heliocóstilis scabra) and also birds as the Toucan (Pteroglossus), red Macaw (ARA macao), yellow Macaw (ARA ararauna), Garza Blanca Grande (Egreta alba), Martín Pescador (Chloroceryele) bird watching Hoatzin or Shansho (Opysthocomus hoazin), which feeds on the banks of the lagoon.
Return to camp for lunch.
Drive through the Gorge to see monks monkeys Yanayaquillo (Saimiri boliviensis), “tamarins (Saguinus fuscicollis) and sloths (Bradypus variegatus).
Dinner at the camp. Overnight.

Day 3: (D.A.C) Pacaya-Samiria

Breakfast at the camp.
Morning tour of Japón by the Gorge and the Laguna de Yanta where you can watch birds and fish.
Among the fish species that abound in the reserve are the piranha (Serrasalmus), shad (Brycun Americus), sardines (Triportheus), among others.
Lunch at the camp. evening canoe ride to appreciate the landscapes of the reserve at dusk.
Dinner at the camp. Overnight.

Day 4: (D.A.C) Pacaya-Samiria

Very early breakfast before breaking camp.
Navigating the Yanayacu-Pucate where it will be possible to see pink dolphins (Inia geoffrenssis), “taricayas” is locally known as river turtles (Podocnemis unifilis) and probably Rio Lobos (Ptenerura brasiliensis).
Arrival at the our next camping place.
Lunch on the river watching the magnificent landscape.  Walk recognition to appreciate the exquisite flora and fauna of this area.
Dinner at the camp. Overnight.

Day 5: (D) Pacaya-Samiria / Nauta / Iquitos / Lima

Breakfast at the camp.
Return to the city of Nauta to Iquitos and transfer land.
Transfer to the airport at appropriate times.
Iquitos Flight
Arrival in Lima and transfer to hotel.

  • Bring bathing clothes and personal towel.
  • Wear lightweight but long-sleeved clothing and long pants.
  • Carry a camera with a well-charged battery.
  • Have a good book, magazines (to read while relaxing in the boat).
  • Use extra strong repellent (Relec), especially for people with clear skin. NOTICE: Mosquitoes leave between 18h-20h
  • Take vitamins before the trip, to avoid the bite of mosquitoes. But rest assured that taking the above precautions the mosquitoes will hardly bother your unforgettable trip.
  • It is recommended to bring sweets or some detail to exchange with the tribes: Boras, Yaguas and Jíbaros.
